Average working hours in India, according to the Minimum wages Act should not exceed 12 hours a day including rest period and by the provision of 1948 Factories Act, persons in between ages of 15 – 18 should not work more than 4-1/2 hours and spread should not exceed 5 hours. Apprentice Act 1961 states that an apprentice should not work more than 8 hours a day and 40 hours a week.
Employee working hours in India are – Government offices 09:30 to 17:30 ( Monday-Friday) and Saturday till 14:00, Banks – 10:00 to 15:00 ( Monday to Friday and Saturdays till 13:00), and for stores 09:00 to 19:00 ( Monday to Saturday).
